Ball in a Box Tutorial by Joseph Savarese
This is a wonderful 2-part video on how to make a ball in a box tutorial. In this tutorial, Joe tells us all the tools that we need and then walks through each and every step needed to make this tutorial. Because of the quality of this video, we suggest that this is a good video for beginners!

Part II - Click here

Joe is also so good (and honest) that he has included a video of all the bloopers to creating this video. This really shows that it's never as easy as it looks!!

Basics of KolrosingBasics of Kolrosing by Judy Ritger and Del Stubbs
Kolrosing is a very old method of giving fine line surface decoration to wood. It started centuries ago with simply using the tip of ones' belt knife to make fine decorative cuts - and then rubbing coal dust into it to bring out the pattern. The inner bark of various trees is also traditionally used (barkrosing). Kolrosing is an old Scandinavian tradition, dating back to Viking times and was most often used to decorate utilitarian objects, such as spoons, small bowls or boxes, cups, etc.

BeginnerBeginner's Carving Project by Northwest Wood Carvers Association
This whittling project is a wonderful first project for beginning carvers. You don't need to buy fancy tools, just use a simple x-acto knife that can be found at most hardware stores. The design is a basic fish shape.

If you're new to carving and ever considered giving it a go, this is a good place to start.
