New And Hot

The "New and Hot" section was created to enable Carving Vendors to notify carvers of new products that they have recently released. This allows turners to stay in touch with all the newest products.

This list is updated frequently, whenever a vendor releases a new product. If you see something new, please let us know!

New From - Flexcut

Whittlin Jack

If you've been eyeing those nice Carving Jack knives but found them too pricey then the new two-blade Whittlin Jack knife might be the answer for you.

At 3 oz. and with a closed length just over 4", you will hardly even notice it in your pocket.

Whittlin' Jack includes a Detail Knife (1- 1/2" long) and a Roughing Knife (2" long).

New From - Loren W. Moseley

On the Cutting Edge

On the Cutting Edge is a 146-page manual with 116 black & white illustrations. It is bound with a plastic comb to allow it to lie flat on the bench while in use.

This sharpening manual is based on over thirty years of practical experience in wood working and carving. For thirteen years, the author served as the principal sharpener at Ed Zinger's week-long Woodcarving Rendezvous seminar at Branson, Missouri. During the week-long seminars, he sharpened tools for students and instructors with totals for the week often exceeding 700 tools. Encouraged by his patrons, he wrote and published the manual in the spring of 1991. More than 1,000 have been sold at both wholesale and retail.

In addition to sharpening at the Woodcarving Rendezvous, the author has provided mail-order sharpening services for local carvers and by mail-order over 20 years. Many carvers ship their tools to Loren once or twice a year for rejuvenation after months of buffing or stropping.

The price of this book is only $5.00 but availability is limited to Loren's remaining copies.

This is by-far the best book that I've read on sharpening that I've ever read. The pictures actually helped me visual the work that we're doing when we sharpen our tools. Get your copy while Loren's supply lasts!

Free 2-day Workshop

AUGUST 13 & 14, 2011 - The Artistry Studios – Peat Lake - Browerville, MN - Master Decoy & Bird Carver, Laurie J. McNeil is offering a 16 hour Carving Workshop for FREE, (ALL Instruction, Use of Tools & Materials Provided Free of Charge). Students will carve and paint a Woodpecker decoy (species TBA), then the student's decoys will travel with Laurie to Salisbury, Maryland to compete in the Ward Chesapeake Challenge Competition at the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art. Award money, plaques and ribbons will be awarded to the winning entries, in both adult and youth categories.

If you are a hunter who would like to learn how to carve your own decoy, an artist who would like to learn how to sculpt birds from wood, or a bird enthusiast who would like to learn how to carve, here is your chance to learn how to carve from a World Champion decoy carver FOR FREE!

Students MUST commit to completing the entire 16 hour course (8 hours 8/13 & 8 hours 8/14) and agree to allow their decoy to be competed in the Chesapeake Challenge on October 8th, 2011. Students will be responsible for transportation to and from the workshop at The Artistry Studios, located 11 miles NE of Browerville. Students will bring bag lunch for class days. Refreshments will be provided. Limited overnight accommodations available on site. Students will NOT use knives to carve, but will instead use power tools (Dremel & Foredom) to carve their decoys. Acrylic paint will be used to paint the decoys by hand brushing and airbrushing. Age requirements 8-80 years! This workshop is intended to support novice (new) carvers and intermediate carvers, not professional carvers. This workshop is sponsored by the Ward Museum of Salisbury, MD and funded by a grant from The National Endowment for the Arts.

Please contact Laurie to be added to the list of students by JULY 22, 2011. In the event there are more than six students interested in the workshop, youth and beginning (novice) students will be favored over intermediate carvers. Future workshops may be arranged to accommodate those who did not make the workshop this time. Workshop classes will consist of 2 eight (8) hour classes on August 13 & 14.

This FREE workshop will fill fast, so don't waste any time. E-mail Laurie right now!
