I always kinda liked those tarot cards, you know? Thought they were pretty neat. So, this year I finally decided to get myself a new deck. I mean, why not, right?
I started by looking around online, just to see what’s out there. There are so many different kinds, it’s kinda crazy. I spent, like, a whole afternoon just browsing different websites and forums. Some folks were talking about how tarot cards are becoming a big thing again, especially after everyone was stuck at home during the pandemic. They said online searches for tarot stuff went up by like 50% in 2020. I guess people were looking for something to do, or maybe they were just curious.

Then I started digging deeper, trying to figure out which deck to actually get. I saw that there’s this Rider-Waite deck that everyone seems to love. It’s been around since 1909, so it’s like the granddaddy of tarot decks. I read that the guy who designed it, A. E. Waite, was some kind of mystic, and the artist, Pamela Colman Smith, they were both in this secret society called the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. Sounds pretty wild, huh?
My Top Tarot Decks of 2023
After checking out a bunch of different options, I finally settled on my top ten for this year. I wanted to keep things simple, nothing too fancy or complicated. Just some solid decks that looked good and felt right.
- I looked into some virtual tarot decks and mobile apps. They’re pretty cool if you’re into that sort of thing, but I prefer having the actual cards in my hands.
- I also found some websites that offer personalized readings. You tell them about yourself, and they’ll do a reading just for you. It’s interesting, but I like figuring things out on my own.
- I read up on some of the individual cards, like the Fool and the Hierophant. The Fool is apparently one of the most important cards in the deck, which I thought was kinda funny. And the Hierophant is sometimes called the Pope or the High Priest. They all have these deep meanings, but I’m still trying to wrap my head around all of it.
Anyway, I finally picked out a deck that I liked and ordered it. When it arrived, I was so excited. I opened it up right away and started looking through the cards. They were even cooler in person than they were online. I spent the rest of the day just getting familiar with them, shuffling them, and doing some simple readings for myself. It was a lot of fun.
It’s been a few weeks now, and I’m still really into it. I’ve been practicing every day, and I feel like I’m starting to get the hang of it. It’s not just about predicting the future or anything like that. It’s more about, like, understanding yourself and the world around you. It’s been a really cool experience so far, and I’m excited to see where it takes me.
