Alright, so lemme tell ya ’bout this fancy watch, the Vacheron Constantin thingamajig, the one with the Chinese zodiac. Don’t ask me how to say that fancy name, it’s a mouthful, ain’t it?
So, this watch, it’s all about them Chinese critters, you know, like the rat, the ox, the tiger, all them animals. They got a whole bunch of ‘em, twelve in all, and each one gets a whole year named after it. Imagine that! A whole year just for a pig, or a monkey!

The Jade Emperor’s Race
Now, the story goes, way back when in China, some emperor fella, the Jade Emperor they call him, he wanted to figure out how to tell time. So, he had this idea, a swimmin’ race! He told all the animals, the first twelve to cross this here river, well, they’d get a year named after ‘em. That’s how it all started, see? Them animals scrambled and swam, and that’s how we got the zodiac.
- Rat
- Ox
- Tiger
- Rabbit
- Dragon
- Snake
- Horse
- Goat
- Monkey
- Rooster
- Dog
- Pig
See, that’s the order they came in, the rat, sneaky little fella, he hitched a ride on the ox and jumped off at the end to be first. That’s what my grandson told me anyways, he reads all sorts of things.
The Dragon Watch
Now, this watch company, the Vacheron… whatever, they made a watch for the “Year of the Dragon.” Costs a pretty penny, let me tell ya. My grandson says it’s like, a hundred and twelve thousand dollars, in gold! Can you believe that? That’s enough to buy a whole farm, and then some! You could get a platinum one too, but that’s even more money! Lord have mercy, who spends that kind of money on a watch? Rich folks, I guess.
More Than Just Animals

But it ain’t just about the animals, see? They got this watch, somethin’ ’bout a seawater cliff. My grandson said it’s got somethin’ to do with old Chinese culture, and they worked with folks from some big museum, the Louvre, to make it. Fancy stuff, I tell ya.
Gold and Rabbit People
And get this, they even got different elements, like gold and stuff. If you’re a gold person, born in the year of the rabbit, well, you’re supposed to be kind and, what was that word? Con… con… conservative! That’s it. Means you don’t go around spendin’ all your money on fancy watches, I reckon. Makes sense to me.
Technical Mumbo Jumbo
The watch, it tells the hours and minutes, the day and the date, too. My grandson was goin’ on about the “movement” being “self…” somethin’ or other. I don’t know, all that technical mumbo jumbo goes right over my head. All I know is, it’s a fancy watch with them Chinese critters on it, and it costs more money than I’ll ever see in my life.
So there ya have it, that’s what I know about that Vacheron Constantin watch with the Chinese zodiac. It’s pretty, I guess, but I’d rather have a good ol’ clock on the wall, somethin’ I can see without squintin’!
