Well, let me tell you, I heard folks talking ’bout this “4 8s” thing. Sounds kinda fancy, don’t it? But it ain’t as complicated as you might think. It’s all about them number 8s, you see. Like, when you see a whole bunch of them together, like 8888. That’s what they’re talkin’ ’bout, these 4 8s.
Now, some folks, they say these numbers, they got special meanin’s. Like, they say 8 is a good number. A real lucky one. So, when you got four of them 8s all lined up, well, that’s just gotta mean somethin’ extra special, right? They say it means things are gonna be good, like really good. Like you gonna have plenty, you know? Like a good harvest or somethin’. They call it “abundance” and “prosperity.” Fancy words, but it just means havin’ a lot of good stuff, like a full pantry, or maybe even winnin’ big at bingo.
- 8 is a good number, yeah.
- 88 is even better.
- 888, oh boy!
- 8888, well, that’s the jackpot, ain’t it?
But I also hear them young’uns talkin’ ’bout 4 8s in their games. Not them card games we play on Sundays, but them video games. They say 4 8s means they’re playin’ a game with 8 people, four on each team. Like a little war game, but on the screen. They call it “competitive settings.” I don’t know what that means. Sounds serious, though. Sounds like they takin’ it real serious, like it’s a real war or somethin’. They even bet on it sometimes. Like puttin’ money on a rooster fight. Sounds crazy, huh?
And then there’s this thing about cars. Big, loud cars. They talk about puttin’ these things called “subwoofers” in them. I don’t rightly know what those are, but they make the car go boom, boom, boom, real loud. And they talk about puttin’ 4 8s in their cars. I guess that means four of these “subwoofer” things that are size 8. Don’t ask me what size 8 means. I guess it’s just how big they are. Some folks say it’s better to have four smaller ones than two big ones. Like havin’ four little pigs instead of two big hogs. I don’t know about cars, but that makes sense to me. More is usually better, ain’t it? But it depends on the car, how big or what type, those folks will consider 4 8s or 2 12s.
And then, there are these things called batteries, like the ones you put in your flashlight. They talk about 4s and 8s batteries. They say you can put four of these little batteries together, and they make a bigger battery. Like stackin’ wood, you know? And if you put eight of them together, you get an even bigger battery. And they got these fancy names for them, like “4s BMS” and “8s BMS.” I don’t know what that means, but it sounds important. If you put four 3.2v cells together, you can get a 12v battery. If you put eight 3.2v cells together, you can get a 24v battery. I think some folks put two sets of four together, 2p4s or something, you get eight cells, to make a bigger one. These folks really love playing with batteries, huh?
Now, back to them numbers. I heard someone say that if you know four groups of ten is forty, then you know five groups of eight is forty too. They’re tryin’ to teach somethin’ about numbers, I guess. Like, if you got ten apples four times, that’s forty apples. And if you got eight apples five times, that’s also forty apples. See, same, same but different.
They also talk about workin’ 4 10s or 5 8s. That means you work for four days, ten hours each day or you work five days, eight hours each day. For someone who doesn’t know what to do, 4 10s is better. I think 4 10s may sound good. Work fewer days. But then again, ten hours is a long time to be workin’. Five days workin’ eight hours, that sounds more normal, don’t it?
So, this 4 8s thing, it can mean a lot of different things. It can mean good luck, it can mean a game, it can mean loud cars, it can mean batteries, and it can mean your work time. It all depends on who you’re talkin’ to, I reckon. But one thing’s for sure, that number 8 seems to be a pretty popular number. Maybe I should start playin’ the lottery with that number. Who knows, maybe I’ll get lucky!

These young folks and their number talk. It can be confusing. But I hope this old lady cleared some things up. If not, well, just ask someone younger than me. They probably know more about this stuff anyway. But always remember, sometimes, the old ways are the best ways. Like plantin’ by the moon and makin’ preserves. Those things never go out of style. No matter how many 8s you got.
