Okay, so yesterday was my niece’s birthday, and she’s totally obsessed with angels right now. So, naturally, she wanted an “angelic” birthday party. I volunteered to handle the cake – big mistake, or so I thought at first!
The Initial Panic
I’m not exactly a master baker. I can whip up some decent cookies, but a themed cake? That felt way out of my league. I started by, you know, frantically searching online. I found tons of pictures, but they all looked super complicated.

Getting Started (Finally!)
First, I baked two round cakes. I just used a basic vanilla recipe – nothing fancy. I figured the flavor wasn’t the main event here, it was all about the look. While those were cooling, I whipped up a big batch of buttercream frosting. Again, keeping it simple, just vanilla.
The “Angelic” Transformation
This is where things got interesting. I tinted most of the frosting a super pale blue – I wanted it to look like the sky. Then I slathered that all over the cakes, trying to make it as smooth as possible (it wasn’t perfect, but hey, I tried!).
The real magic happened with the decorations. I found these edible silver glitter things – they looked like tiny stars. I sprinkled those all over the blue frosting. Then, the main event: the wings!
- I bought some white candy melts and melted them down.
- I laid out some parchment paper and drew a basic wing shape (thank goodness for online tutorials!).
- I piped the melted candy onto the parchment, following my outline, then fill them.
- I stuck them in the fridge to harden.
The Big Reveal
Once the wings were solid, I carefully peeled them off the parchment and stuck them into the top of the cake. It actually looked pretty good! I added a few white chocolate curls around the base for extra fluffiness.
My niece absolutely loved it! She said it was the most beautiful cake she’d ever seen (kids are so easy to please!). And honestly, I was pretty proud of myself. It wasn’t perfect, but it was definitely angelic, and it was made with love. That’s what counts, right?
