Well, let me tell ya ’bout this 1821 Chinese zodiac thing. I ain’t no fancy scholar or nothin’, but I heard folks talkin’ and I got ears, ya know? They say 1821, that was the year of the Snake. Yeah, a Snake year. Not just any snake, mind you, a Metal Snake, they call it.

Now, I don’t know much about these city folks and their fancy charts and numbers, but they say this Metal Snake thing means somethin’. They say folks born in that year, they’re kinda… secretive. Like a snake in the grass, I guess. They also say they’re smart, real smart, and they talk good. Can sweet-talk you outta your socks, if you ain’t careful.
They say these Snake people, they know what they want and they go after it. Stubborn as a mule, my old man used to say. But they also got a soft side, they say. Care about their kin and all that. They like learnin’ things, always readin’ books or somethin’. I tell ya, I ain’t never seen a snake read a book, but that’s what they say.
So, February 3rd, 1821, that was the start of it all, the Snake year. I reckon it was a big deal back then. Folks probably had all sorts of superstitions and beliefs about it. Like, if a snake crossed your path, you’d have bad luck, or if you saw a snake in your dream, it meant somethin’ special. You know how it is with old wives’ tales.
- Smart and Wise: They say these Snake folks are clever, always thinkin’. Not like me, I just do what needs doin’.
- Good Talkers: Smooth talkers, they are. Could sell ice to an Eskimo, my grandma used to say.
- Determined: Once they set their mind to somethin’, they don’t let go. Like a dog with a bone.
- Caring: Even though they seem all tough and mysterious, they got a heart, I guess. Just like the rest of us.
- Value Knowledge: Always wantin’ to learn more, read more, know more. I guess that ain’t a bad thing.
Now, they also talk about lucky numbers and colors and flowers and all that for these Snake people. I don’t pay much mind to that stuff. But some folks, they swear by it. They say wearin’ certain colors or carryin’ certain numbers will bring you good luck. Maybe it does, maybe it don’t. Who am I to say?
This whole Chinese zodiac thing, it’s kinda like lookin’ at the stars, tryin’ to figure out what it all means. They got all these animals – Rats and Tigers and Rabbits and Dragons and all sorts. Each one has its own personality and traits. And they say it affects the year and the people born in that year. It’s all a bit much for my old brain, but it’s interesting, I gotta admit.
They say there’s a whole cycle, every 12 years it repeats. So, after the Snake year, comes the Horse, then the Sheep, then the Monkey, and so on. And each animal has its own…what do they call it… compatibility, yeah that’s it. Like, some animals get along better than others. They say if you marry someone with the right animal sign, you’ll have a good life. I don’t know about all that. Marriage is hard work, no matter what animal you are.

They even got websites and stuff now, talkin’ about this 1821 Metal Snake. Wisdom Portal, they call it. Shows you all the years and the animals and all that. These young folks and their computers, I tell ya. Back in my day, we just looked at the sky and the weather to figure things out.
Anyway, that’s what I know ’bout this 1821 Chinese zodiac, the year of the Metal Snake. Take it with a grain of salt, like I always say. Life ain’t all about stars and animals. It’s about hard work and good folks and tryin’ to make the best of what you got. But it’s fun to think about sometimes, ain’t it? Makes you wonder what them old timers were thinkin’ way back then.
