Well, let me tell ya ’bout this here Chinese zodiac calendar thingy for 2023. Folks say it’s the year of the Rabbit, somethin’ about a Water Rabbit to be exact. Now, I ain’t no scholar, but I heard tell it starts on January 22nd, 2023 and goes all the way to February 9th, 2024. That’s a long time for a rabbit to be in charge, ain’t it?
They say the Rabbit means good things, ya know, like livin’ a long life, havin’ peace, and gettin’ rich. Sounds good to me! Hope it’s true, ’cause this old gal could use a bit of luck. They call it a year of hope, too. Land knows, we always need hope, no matter what year it is.

Now, this here calendar ain’t like the one we got hangin’ on the wall. It’s got all these animals and stuff. They got twelve of ’em, they say, goin’ in a circle year after year. Let’s see if I can remember ’em all… There’s the Rat, the Ox, the Tiger, and then the Rabbit, of course. After that, it’s the Dragon, the Snake, the Horse, the Goat… or is it a Sheep? Folks call it different things sometimes. Then there’s the Monkey, the Rooster, the Dog, and last but not least, the Pig.
Each animal, they say, has its own kinda personality. Like them Rat folks, born in the year of the Rat, they’re good at savin’ money, so they say. Smart cookies, them Rats. And them Rabbits, they’re supposed to be quick-witted and clever. I guess that’s why they picked the Rabbit for this year, huh? Maybe things’ll move fast this year, who knows.
They also got this thing called “Li-Chun” on February 4th, 2023. That’s the real start of the Chinese Astrological Year, whatever that means. It’s kinda confusing, all these different dates and names. But, hey, as long as good things happen, I ain’t complainin’.
This calendar, it ain’t just ’bout animals. It’s got somethin’ called “24 Solar Terms,” too. Don’t ask me what that means, ’cause I sure don’t know! It’s prob’ly got to do with the sun and the moon and all that fancy stuff. City folks and them scientists, they understand these things better than I do.
- Rat (鼠 / Shǔ): Smart and good at saving money.
- Ox: Strong and hardworking.
- Tiger: Brave and powerful.
- Rabbit (兔 / Tù): Quick-witted, clever, and bringer of peace, longevity, and prosperity.
- Dragon: Confident and lucky.
- Snake: Wise and mysterious.
- Horse: Energetic and free-spirited.
- Goat/Sheep: Gentle and kind.
- Monkey: Playful and intelligent.
- Rooster: Observant and hardworking.
- Dog: Loyal and honest.
- Pig: Generous and kind-hearted.
I also heard tell about some other signs, not the animal ones. Somethin’ called Libra? They say them Libra folks are lucky this year too. Blessed by somethin’ called Venus, whatever that is. Sounds fancy. They say them Libras won’t have too many troubles this year. Good for them, I say.
Anyways, that’s all I know ’bout this here Chinese zodiac calendar for 2023. It’s the year of the Rabbit, and hopefully, it’ll be a good one, full of hope and good luck for all of us. चाहे साल कोई भी हो, ऊपर वाला सबकी खैर करे!

Whether the year is any, May God protect everyone!
So, there ya have it. Not much, but it’s what this old gal knows. Hope it makes some sense to ya.
