Okay, so the other day I was trying to figure out which of my friends would get along, you know, based on their Chinese zodiac signs. I thought it would be fun to make a little compatibility chart. It turned out to be a bigger project than I expected!
Digging into the Zodiac
First, I listed out all the zodiac animals and their years. I mean, I know my own sign, but I had to look up a bunch of others. It’s a 12-year cycle, right? Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Got that down.

Finding the “Compatibilities”
Next, I started researching which signs are supposed to be compatible. This is where things got interesting. There are different ideas about this! Some sources talked about “trines” – groups of four animals that supposedly get along great.
For example, one site said:
- Rat, Dragon, and Monkey
- Ox, Snake, and Rooster
- Tiger, Horse, and Dog
- Rabbit, Goat, and Pig
Are super compatible with each other.
And then there are the “opposite” signs, the ones that clash. Like, the Rat and Horse are supposedly not a good match. I found all these relationships and jotted them down.
Making Some Sense of It
Honestly, it was a bit overwhelming with all the information. I decided to focus on the trines, because that seemed like the most positive approach. I liked the idea of grouping friends into these compatible clusters.

Putting it all Together
I ended up drawing a little diagram, kind of like a wheel, with the animals in their trine groups. Then I wrote in my friends’ names next to their respective signs. It was pretty cool to see it all visualized!
It’s definitely not a perfect science, and I’m sure there are other ways to look at zodiac compatibility. But it was a fun exercise, and it gave me something to chat about with my friends. It is all about good fun, after all!
