Okay, so I’ve been tinkering with this idea for a while, and I finally made it happen – a 2024 lunar zodiac calendar. It wasn’t too tough, but it did take some elbow grease to get it all sorted.
First off, I had to figure out what the deal was with this whole lunar calendar thing. Turns out, it’s pretty different from what we’re used to. It’s all based on the moon’s cycles, and it’s a big part of how they do things in China and Korea. Each year is tied to an animal, and they cycle through 12 of them. 2024 is the Year of the Dragon, which I thought was pretty cool. But not just any dragon – it’s a Wood Dragon, which I learned is because of some element thing they have going on too.
So, I started by gathering all the dates I could find. The big one was when the actual Chinese New Year starts – February 10th. But the Year of the Dragon starts a bit earlier, on February 4th. That’s just how it works. And apparently, there are also lucky colors (black and red) and numbers (2 and 8) for the year, although I’m not sure what to do with that info yet. Maybe I’ll wear a red shirt on those days. I also read something about black being good for those born in the year of the Rooster, making them more stable.
I dove into a bunch of different calendars online – there’s a lot of them! Some had info on baby gender prediction for pregnancy, which was interesting, even though I don’t need that right now. Others had auspicious wedding dates and something called a 24-Season Calendar, which was way over my head. I mainly focused on the lunar months, just trying to get the dates right.
- Gathered all the important dates.
- Figured out the start of the lunar new year and the year of the dragon.
- Learned about the animal and element associated.
- Checked out different calendars online.
- Focused on the lunar months.
The hardest part was probably making sure I didn’t mess up any of the dates. I double and triple–checked everything. Then, I started putting it all together. I decided to make it a printable calendar, so I spent some time figuring out the layout and making it look somewhat decent.
Putting It All Together
After a few late nights and lots of coffee, I finally had something I was happy with. It’s not super fancy, but it’s got all the lunar dates, the animal signs, and even a little note about the lucky colors and numbers. And it shows when the lunar eclipses are, which is kind of cool. I even printed out a copy, and it actually looks pretty good on paper! It feels good to have actually made something tangible, you know? This whole project was a fun little deep dive into something new.
