Okay, so the other day I started messing around with this thing called the “Joie de Vivre Tarot.” Sounds kinda fancy, right? It’s French for “joy of living” or something like that. I’d seen it online, and the artwork really caught my eye, all colorful and kinda like a fairy tale. So I figured, why not give it a shot?
I got this deck way back in October 2022, but honestly, it just sat there collecting dust until now. I was looking up some new tarot decks for a blog post I’m working on, and it kinda kicked me into gear to finally try this one out.

First off, I spent a good chunk of time just flipping through the cards. Each one is like a mini piece of art. I got lost in the details, checking out all the little characters and scenes. It’s pretty wild how much is packed into each card. Some are easy to understand, and some are really odd and abstract.
Then I started doing some basic readings. I’m no expert, just a beginner really. I pulled a few cards each morning, just to see what the day might hold. Nothing too serious, just a bit of fun to start the day. I mostly used a simple three card spread, for past, present, and future. I’d never used a three-card spread before, but I just felt like this was the right choice for this deck.
- I laid out the three cards.
- I looked at the pictures and just let whatever thoughts pop into my head flow.
- I jotted down some notes in my journal, nothing fancy, just whatever the cards made me think about.
After a few days of this, I decided to try something a bit more involved. I found this spread online, I think it was called the “Path to Joy” spread. You lay out like seven cards, and each one represents a different aspect of your life, like your goals, your challenges, your hidden strengths, that kind of thing.
My First Big Spread
It took a while to set up and really think about each card and how it connected to the others. I spent a good hour, at least, just pondering it all. I was sat cross legged on the floor, shuffling and laying out the cards, then grabbing my journal, then going back to stare at the cards some more. It was a whole process.
Honestly, it was kinda cool. I wasn’t expecting much, but I actually got some interesting insights out of it. It’s like the cards helped me see some things about myself that I hadn’t really noticed before. For example, there’s this one card, The Star, that showed up in the “hidden strengths” position. It made me think about how I tend to underestimate myself and how maybe I have more potential than I realize. I grabbed a pen and scribbled down a few notes on the subject, just kinda free writing for a while.
I’ve kept up with the daily readings, and I’ve even done the “Path to Joy” spread a couple more times. It’s become a nice little ritual for me. I am not saying I’m suddenly psychic or anything, but it’s a fun way to reflect and tap into my intuition. Plus, the artwork is just so darn pretty to look at. I’m not sure if it has made me more joyful yet, but I am enjoying the ride so far.

I am going to keep experimenting and exploring. I have a lot more to learn. I might even try designing my own tarot spread sometime, that’s a project for the future. I can see this deck has a lot of layers, and I just want to keep digging to see what else I can uncover. It’s a journey, you know? And who knows where it will lead.
