Okay, so I’ve been getting into tarot lately, and I decided to try a 7-card spread today. I’m still pretty new to this, so I thought I’d walk you through what I did and how it went.
Getting Started
First, I grabbed my deck. I’ve been using the Rider-Waite deck because it’s, like, the classic one, and the images are pretty easy to understand. I shuffled the cards while thinking about what I wanted guidance on. I wasn’t focused on a super specific question, more like, “What do I need to know right now?” General vibes, you know?

The Spread
After shuffling, I laid out seven cards face down in the order of positions. I like doing things orderly. I used this layout I found online:
- Card 1: The Past – What past events are influencing the present?
- Card 2: The Present – What’s happening right now? What’s the current situation?
- Card 3: Hidden Influences – What am I not seeing? What’s under the surface?
- Card 4: Obstacles – What challenges are in my way?
- Card 5: The Advice – What should I do? What action should I take?
- Card 6: External Influences – What’s going on around me that’s affecting things?
- Card 7: Potential Outcome – Where is this all headed if things continue on this path?
My Reading
Then, one by one, I flipped the cards over and, well, tried to make sense of them. I won’t bore you with every single detail of my specific cards, but I’ll give you the gist.
The Past card was something about letting go of old baggage, which, yeah, okay, accurate. The Present card showed a figure working hard, so that resonated with my current work project. The Hidden Influences card was a bit tricky – it suggested I wasn’t paying enough attention to my intuition. The Obstacles card showed conflict, which could be related to some disagreements I’ve been having with a friend.
The Advice card was surprisingly straightforward: take a break! Rest and recharge. External Influences showed a card representing community, so maybe connecting with others is important right now. And finally, the Potential Outcome was pretty positive – a card symbolizing success and fulfillment. But, of course, that’s just a potential outcome, depending on how I handle things.
Making Sense of It All
After looking at all the cards, I spent some time just sitting with them. I jotted down some notes in my journal, trying to connect the cards to what’s actually going on in my life. It’s not about predicting the future with 100% accuracy, it is more about getting a different perspective and maybe noticing things I hadn’t considered before.
Overall, it was a pretty interesting experience. I’m definitely still learning, but I feel like this 7-card spread gave me some food for thought. It’s like having a conversation with myself, but using these cool, symbolic cards as prompts. I’ll probably try this spread again soon, maybe with a more specific question next time!
