Okay, so I’ve been meaning to get into tarot for a while now, and I finally decided to just dive in. I went with “The Awakening Tarot” deck because, well, the artwork just really spoke to me. It’s got this dreamy, kind of surreal vibe that I’m totally into.
First things first, I unboxed the deck. It came in this nice, sturdy box, and the cards themselves felt really good quality – not flimsy at all. I spent a good hour just flipping through them, getting a feel for the imagery and the general energy of the deck.

My First Reading
I knew I needed a quiet space, so I went to my little reading nook (basically just a comfy corner in my bedroom with some cushions and candles). I lit a candle, took a few deep breaths, and shuffled the cards. Honestly, I wasn’t even sure what question to ask at first. I just held the deck and tried to clear my mind.
Finally, I decided to keep it simple. I just asked, “What do I need to focus on right now?” I shuffled some more, then cut the deck and drew three cards.
- Card 1: Representing the Present situation.
- Card 2: Representing the Challenge.
- Card 3: Representing the Guidance for action.
I’m not going to lie, I had to look up the meanings in the little guidebook that came with the deck. It was all a bit overwhelming at first, but the book was actually pretty helpful. It explained each card’s symbolism and gave some interpretations. I slowly studied them and wrote down the basic meaning of the card.
After reading the guidebook’s explanations, I spent some time just looking at the cards, seeing how they related to my question, and trying to connect them to what’s going on in my life. Then I used a notebook jotted down my first tarot reading record.
It was a bit clunky, and I definitely felt like a total newbie, but it was also kind of… exciting? Like I was tapping into something.
I’ve decided I’m going to try to do a simple reading like this every week, just to get more familiar with the cards and build my intuition. We’ll see how it goes!
