Okay, so I’ve been seeing these “constellation gifts” all over my social media feeds, and I finally decided to jump on the bandwagon and make one myself. I thought it would be a super cute and personalized gift for my friend’s birthday.
Getting Started
First things first, I needed to figure out what kind of constellation gift I wanted to make. There are tons of options out there, like those star maps, jewelry, and even embroidered hoops. I ended up deciding on a DIY star map, because it seemed like something I could actually pull off without messing up too badly.

Gathering Supplies
Next up, I needed to get my hands on some supplies. I grabbed:
- A piece of dark blue cardstock – to look like the night sky, you know?
- Some white paint pens– for drawing the stars and lines.
- A printout of my friend’s star chart.– I used one of free online service, just put in her birthday and birthplace.
- A pencil and an eraser-Because mistakes happen.
- Some glitter– Optional, I added because, I want some extra sparkle.
Making the Star Map
Alright, time to get crafty. I started by lightly sketching the constellation onto the cardstock using the printout as a guide. I am not gonna lie, it was a little tricky getting the stars in the right spots, but I took my time and erased a few times until I was happy with it.
Once I had the basic outline, I went over it with the white paint pen. I made some stars bigger and brighter than others, just to make it look a little more realistic(well, as realistic as a handmade star map can look!).This part was actually pretty relaxing, kind of like connecting the dots but way cooler.
Adding the Finishing Touches
After the paint dried, add some details. I added the name of the constellation and my friend’s name and birthday along the bottom. And, because I’m extra, I sprinkled a little bit of glitter onto the wet paint to give it some extra sparkle. Let it dried, and look that! I am satisfied.
Honestly, it turned out way better than I expected! It’s not perfect, but it’s handmade and personalized, and I think my friend will really love it. Plus, it was actually pretty fun to make. Maybe I’ll start making these for everyone’s birthdays!
