Okay, so I wanted to make a Chinese zodiac calendar for 2021. You know, the one with the animals and elements for each year? I thought it would be a fun little project and maybe something cool to hang on the wall.
First, I looked up the animal for 2021. Turns out, it was the Year of the Ox. And not just any Ox, a Metal Ox. Good to know!

Then, I needed to figure out the dates. I found a bunch of websites that listed the start and end dates of the lunar year. The Chinese New Year doesn’t start on January 1st, like the Gregorian calendar. It changes every year based on the moon. 2021, it started on February 12th.
Putting It Together
I decided to make a simple table. Nothing fancy, just something I could easily understand.
- Column 1: Month (January, February, etc.)
- Column 2: Dates within that month that were part of the lunar year 2021.
- Column 3: The Zodiac Animal (Ox, of course!)
- Column 4:The element(Metal)
So I started filling it in. January was easy. The first day still belongs to last year’s animal. Only from February 12, I wrote “Ox” in every row for the rest of the year.
I filled out all the months, making sure to note when the 2021 lunar year ended (which, by the way, was January 31st, 2022). It took a bit of back-and-forth, checking the dates on different websites to make sure I got it right.
Finally, I have made the 2021 chinese zodiac * is so easy and fun to use it to check.
