Well now, let’s talk about this Chinese Zodiac Drawing thing. You know, them little animals and such. I ain’t no fancy artist, mind you, but I seen enough pictures and things to know what’s what.
First off, what is this Chinese Zodiac anyway? It’s a whole bunch of animals, see? Like a rat, an ox, a tiger, a rabbit… you get the picture. They say each one is for a year, and folks born in that year are supposed to be like that animal. Sounds like a bunch of hogwash to me, but hey, people like it, so who am I to judge? It’s just like folks sayin’ if you’re born in the year of the pig, you like to eat slop, which ain’t true for everyone I know born in them years, that’s for sure.

So, about drawin’ these critters. I seen some real pretty ones, and some that look like a dog’s breakfast. If you wanna draw ‘em purdy-like, you gotta start somewhere, right? I reckon you gotta look at the real thing, or at least a good picture. You can’t just pull a dragon out of thin air, can ya? Unless you got a dragon in your backyard, which I doubt. If you wanna draw a rat, well, go catch one, but be careful they don’t bite. If it’s a tiger, better go to the zoo, unless you wanna get eaten! For a dragon, well, I reckon you gotta use your imagination for that one. Ain’t nobody seen a real dragon, have they?
- First, you gotta get the shape right.
- Then, you add the details, like the eyes and the fur, or scales if it’s a dragon.
- And don’t forget the colors! Some of them animals are real colorful, like the rooster and the dragon.
Now, there’s all sorts of ways to draw these zodiac animals. Some folks like to do it the old-fashioned way, with pencil and paper. Others like to use them fancy computers and tablets. Me? I stick to what I know. Pencil and paper is good enough for me. I ain’t got no time for all that newfangled tech stuff.
I seen some pictures where they cut the animals out of paper, real thin and delicate like. They call it papercuttin’, I think. Now that’s somethin’ special. Takes a steady hand and a good eye, that’s for sure. I tried it once, made a mess of it. Ended up with more scraps than animal. Guess I ain’t cut out for that kind of work. And then there’s them drawings with all them bright colors, bold lines, they call ‘em “illustrations”. Some folks sure got a knack for makin’ things purdy.
And you know what else? You can find tons of these pictures online. Just type in “Chinese Zodiac Drawing” or “Chinese Zodiac Illustration” or somethin’ like that, and you’ll get more pictures than you can shake a stick at. There’s all kinds, from simple little drawings to real fancy ones. Some are even free to download, so you can print ‘em out and color ‘em yourself, if you’re a mind to. That Pinterest thing, they got all kinds of ideas. You can spend all day lookin’ at them pictures, I tell ya.
But listen here, don’t just go copyin’ other folks’ work. That ain’t right. Use them pictures to get ideas, sure, but then make it your own. Put your own spin on it. That’s what makes it special, see? If everyone just copied each other, it’d all be the same, wouldn’t it? And what fun is that? You gotta let your own imagination run wild. That’s the best way to do it, if you ask me.
And don’t worry if it ain’t perfect. Ain’t nothin’ in this world perfect, cept maybe a good cup of coffee on a cold mornin’. Just have fun with it. That’s the main thing. If you enjoy drawin’ them animals, then that’s all that matters. Who cares if your rat looks a little bit like a squirrel, or your dragon looks a little bit like a snake? It’s your drawing, ain’t it? You can do whatever you want with it. Don’t let nobody tell you different.

So there you have it. That’s my two cents on Chinese Zodiac Drawing. Not much, I know, but it’s honest. Now go on and get drawin’. And don’t forget to have fun!
