Okay, here we go! Today’s little project was making some constellation wrapping paper. It’s easier than you might think, and it looks pretty darn cool.
I started by gathering my supplies. Needed some plain black wrapping paper. The roll I had was a bit wrinkled, but I figured that added to the charm. Sort of like an old star map, right? I also grabbed a white paint pen. I thought about using a silver one, but the white seemed like it would pop more against the black. Also used a ruler, because straight lines are important when you’re mapping out constellations. And lastly, some star stickers. I found some gold ones that were just the right size.

Laying out the Constellations
First thing I did was roll out the paper on my table. I decided to do a few different constellations, just to make it interesting. I picked out Orion, because it’s one of the easiest to recognize, and then the Big Dipper and Cassiopeia. I used the ruler to draw some light lines as guides, then started connecting the “stars” with the paint pen. I wasn’t super precise with it, though. Stars in the real sky aren’t perfectly aligned, so I figured mine didn’t need to be either.
Adding the Stars
Once I had the basic shapes drawn, I went back in with the star stickers. I put a bigger sticker at each of the main points of the constellation, where the lines connected. Then, I added a few smaller stickers here and there, just to fill things out a bit. It’s really starting to look like a night sky now!
Finishing Touches
After the constellations were done, I decided to add a few extra touches. I drew some little shooting stars with the paint pen, and I also added a few random dots here and there, like distant galaxies. I think it turned out pretty good! It’s definitely unique, and it’s got that personal touch that you just don’t get with store-bought paper.
- Roll out your paper and pick your constellations.
- Draw lines to connect the “stars”.
- Add star stickers to mark the main stars.
- Draw in some extra details, like shooting stars.
I wrapped a small gift in it, just to see how it looked. I used some simple twine to tie it up, and it looked awesome. This would be perfect for a birthday present for someone who’s into astronomy, or even just for a Christmas gift. It’s a fun little project that anyone can do. Give it a try sometime! You can even wrap it up like a Chipotle burrito.
Honestly, it was way easier than I expected. And pretty fun, too! It took me like, maybe an hour? Tops. Plus, it’s way more special than the usual wrapping paper you grab at the store. If you’re feeling crafty and want to make your gifts extra special, give this a shot. You might surprise yourself!
