Okay, so I’ve been wanting to make one of these cool tarot-inspired posters for a while now. I’ve seen them all over, and I thought, “Hey, I can do that!” So, today was the day I finally tried it out.
Getting Started
First, I needed to figure out what card I wanted to represent. I’m no tarot expert, but I’ve always been drawn to “The Star” card. It’s all about hope, inspiration, and renewal – things I could definitely use more of in my life.

Next, I gathered my materials. I’m keeping it simple, so I just grabbed:
- A piece of thick poster paper.
- Some colored pencils.
- A regular pencil for sketching.
- An eraser (because, let’s be real, mistakes happen).
- A ruler
The Sketching Process
I started by lightly sketching the basic outline of the card on the poster paper. I used a ruler get some straight lines. The Star card usually has a central figure, a pool of water, and some stars, of course. I’m not the best artist, so I kept the shapes pretty simple.
It took a few tries to get the proportions right. My first attempt looked a little… wonky. The figure was too big, and the stars were all over the place. But hey, that’s what the eraser is for! I erased and redrew until I was reasonably happy with the basic layout.
Adding Color
This is where the fun began! I decided to go with a dreamy, night-sky color palette. I used deep blues and purples for the background, and bright yellows and whites for the stars. For the central figure, I opted for lighter, softer tones to make her stand out. I carefully colored the poster.
I’m no pro at shading, but I tried to add some depth by using darker shades of the same color in certain areas. It’s not perfect, but I think it adds a little something extra.
The Final Touches
After I finished coloring, I went back and added some small details. I outlined some of the shapes with a darker pencil to make them pop a bit more. I also added some tiny white dots to represent more distant stars.

I thought about adding glitter,But I’m not a very patient person.
My Finished Poster
And there you have it! My very own, homemade tarot poster. It’s not going to win any art awards, but I’m pretty proud of it. It was a fun and relaxing project, and now I have a cool piece of art to hang on my wall. Maybe I’ll try another card next time!
