Okay, so I’ve been seeing these “spirit animal” tarot cards all over my social media, and I finally caved and bought a deck. I’ve always been kinda curious about tarot, but never really took the plunge. This seemed like a fun, less intimidating way to dip my toes in.
First thing I did was, obviously, rip open the package. The artwork on these cards is gorgeous – seriously, like little mini paintings of all kinds of animals. I spent a good 20 minutes just flipping through them, admiring the wolves, bears, owls, even a freaking armadillo! Each card has a keyword or phrase at the bottom, which I guess is supposed to give you a hint about its meaning.

Next, I tried to figure out how to actually use them. The little booklet that came with the cards was kinda vague, talking about “connecting with your intuition” and “finding your inner wildness.” I’m more of a step-by-step instructions kind of gal, so I hit up the internet.
I looked at several webpages, that said pretty much the same thing, so I just combined everything I read online.
I found a bunch of different “spreads” – basically, different ways to lay out the cards to answer specific questions. I decided to start simple with a basic three-card spread: past, present, future. I shuffled the deck, really trying to focus on a general question about my life path (which felt kinda cheesy, but hey, I was going for it). Then I laid out three cards face down.
- Card 1 (Past): The Raven – “Mystery.” Okay, that kinda resonated. My past has definitely had some unexpected twists and turns.
- Card 2 (Present): The Horse – “Freedom.” Hmm, interesting. I do feel like I’m at a point in my life where I have a lot of choices.
- Card 3 (Future): The Bear – “Courage.” Alright, I can dig that. Maybe I need to be a little braver in pursuing my goals.
I spent some time looking at the pictures and reading the longer descriptions in the booklet. It’s actually pretty amazing how much the card meanings seemed to apply to my current situation. I’m not saying I’m suddenly a tarot expert, but it was definitely a fun and thought-provoking experience.
I’m planning to try out some different spreads and maybe even do readings for my friends. We’ll see how that goes! Overall, I’d say these spirit animal tarot cards are a cool way to get into tarot, especially if you’re into animals or just looking for a more visually appealing deck. It will be interesting to play some more and learn more about this.
