So, the other day I was trying to figure out what my Chinese zodiac sign was for the year 2000. I could have just Googled it, I guess, but where’s the fun in that? I wanted to get my hands dirty and, you know, actually build something.
First, I needed to understand the basics. I knew the Chinese zodiac has a 12-year cycle, and each year is represented by an animal. I also knew that it’s somehow connected to the lunar calendar, which is different from the Gregorian calendar we use every day.

Digging into the Details
So I did a lot of researching at online. I started by looking up the animals and the order they come in. You’ve got the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. Classic stuff.
- Rat
- Ox
- Tiger
- Rabbit
- Dragon
- Snake
- Horse
- Goat
- Monkey
- Rooster
- Dog
- Pig
And for the year 2000, I finally put two and two together – It should be the year of Dragon!
