Okay, so I’ve been on this vintage watch kick lately, and I kept seeing these Omega Constellations with what they call a “pie pan” dial. I was like, “What the heck is a pie pan dial?” So I did some digging, and man, they’re beautiful! I decided I had to try and find one for myself.
I started by just browsing around, you know, seeing what was out there. I quickly realized there are a ton of different Constellation models. It’s kinda overwhelming! But I knew I wanted that classic, vintage look, and the pie pan dial was the key.

The Hunt Begins
I spent hours scrolling through forums and online marketplaces. My eyes started to glaze over, looking at all these tiny pictures of watch faces. I learned that the pie pan dial is basically a dial that slopes down at the edges, like, well, a pie pan! It gives it this really cool, three-dimensional look.
It’s not easy, lots of watches looked similar. Or some use bad quality pictures, and I can’t tell the details.
I narrowed it down to a few specific references (that’s what they call the model numbers) that I liked. I wanted a stainless steel case, not gold, and I preferred the ones with the date window. It’s just more practical for me.
The Challenge
The tricky part was finding one in good condition. A lot of these watches are 50, 60 years old! I saw a bunch with scratched crystals (that’s the glass covering the dial), or dials that had turned a weird color. Some even had replacement parts that weren’t original to the watch, which is a big no-no for collectors.
- Scratched crystals
- Discolored dials
- Non-original parts
I almost gave up a few times. It felt like searching for a needle in a haystack! But I’m stubborn, so I kept at it. I even set up some alerts so I’d get notified when new listings popped up.
Success
Finally, after weeks of searching, I found it! A beautiful, all-original Omega Constellation with a perfect pie pan dial. The seller had tons of pictures, and it looked like it was in amazing shape. I messaged them a bunch of questions, and they were super helpful and responsive.

I pulled the trigger and bought it! I was so nervous waiting for it to arrive. When I finally opened the box, I was blown away. It was even more stunning in person. The way the light catches the angles of the dial is just mesmerizing.
I’ve been wearing it every day since, and I just love it. It’s a classic, timeless piece, and it feels like I’m wearing a little piece of history on my wrist. Plus, it’s a great conversation starter! People are always asking me about it.
So the search for an omega pie pan constellation, a tough one, but I made it.
