Okay, here is my blog post about my experience making a constellation stencil:
So, I’ve been wanting to spruce up my home office for a while now. I was just feeling kind of bored with the plain walls, you know? I saw some cool ideas online using stencils, and I thought, “Hey, I could totally do that!” I’ve always been kind of fascinated by the stars and constellations, so I figured that would be a fun theme to go with. I decided to go with a constellation stencil.

First things first, I had to gather my supplies. I found a bunch of different constellation stencils online, some with the whole zodiac, some with just a few specific constellations. There are even some labeled “Reusable Stencil”.They are pretty cheap. I finally settled on one that had a good mix of recognizable constellations, like Orion and the Big Dipper, along with a bunch of random stars. Then, I got some basic acrylic paints in a few different shades of blue and white, some small paintbrushes, and some painter’s tape. I was ready to roll!
I started by taping the stencil to the wall where I wanted it. I used a little level to make sure it wasn’t crooked. Then came the messy part—the painting! I dipped a small brush into the paint, making sure to not get too much on it. You really don’t need a lot, a little goes a long way, and it helps prevent the paint from bleeding under the stencil.
- First Try: I started with a dark blue and tried to fill in the larger shapes, like the outline of Orion. It was a little tricky to get the paint into the smaller points of the stencil.
- Second Layer: Once the dark blue was dry, I went over some areas with a lighter blue to add some dimension. It’s kind of like layering colors to make it look more realistic.
- Starry Details: Finally, I used a tiny brush and white paint to add some extra stars around the main constellations. This part was actually kind of relaxing, just dabbing little dots of paint all over.
After I finished painting, I carefully peeled off the stencil. And, you know what? It looked pretty awesome! There were a few spots where the paint had smudged a little, but I was able to touch those up with a small brush and some white paint.
I ended up repeating the process a few more times on different parts of the wall, creating a whole little galaxy in my office. It took a couple of afternoons to get it all done, but it was definitely worth it. I even saw some labeled “Constellation Wall Art”, but I made it all by myself! My office looks way more interesting now, and it was a fun little project to do. The whole thing was a learning experience, but a fun one. Now my office has a cool, personalized touch. And I learned a thing or two about painting with stencils. This is so cool! If you are looking for a creative idea, maybe you can try this!
