Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about this here old zodiac calendar. Folks been lookin’ at the stars for ages, tryin’ to figure out what it all means. I ain’t no scholar, mind you, but I heard some things from my grandma and them, and I reckon I can piece it together for ya.
The Beginnings of the Zodiac Thingy

Way back when, like, thousands of years ago, some folks in a place called Babylonia – that’s what I heard, anyway – started watchin’ the sky. They saw them stars makin’ patterns, and they figured them patterns meant somethin’. They come up with these here twelve signs, like pictures in the sky. They called ’em zodiac signs. I tell you, them Babylonians were smart cookies!
The Twelve Signs: What They Are and When They Come Around
- Capricorn, that’s the goat, comes around the end of December and the start of January. Stubborn folks, them Capricorns.
- Then you got Aquarius, the water bearer, in January and February. Always dreamin’ and thinkin’, them Aquarius folks.
- Pisces, the fishes, swims in February and March. Sensitive as a wet noodle, them Pisces.
- Aries, the ram, butts in durin’ March and April. Always in a hurry, them Aries.
- Taurus, the bull, stomps around in April and May. Solid as a rock, them Taurus folks.
- Gemini, the twins, chatterin’ away in May and June. Two sides to everythin’ with them Gemini.
- Cancer, the crab, scuttles around in June and July. Homebodies, them Cancers. Love their families.
- Leo, the lion, roars in July and August. Born leaders, them Leos. Always wantin’ to be the boss.
- Virgo, the virgin, comes in August and September. Pickiest folks you ever did see, them Virgos. Always gotta have things just so.
- Libra, the scales, balancin’ things out in September and October. Fair-minded, them Libras. Always tryin’ to be nice.
- Scorpio, the scorpion, stings in October and November. Secretive folks, them Scorpios. Keep their cards close to their chest.
- And finally, Sagittarius, the archer, shoots arrows in November and December. Adventurous, them Sagittarius folks. Always lookin’ for somethin’ new.
Now, Some Folks Say There’s More
I heard tell that some folks are sayin’ there’s more than just these twelve signs. They talkin’ about Ophiuchus and Cetus and who knows what else. Sounds like a bunch of hooey to me, but what do I know? I stick with what my grandma taught me.
The Old Way and the New Way
There’s the old way, the “tropical” way, they call it. That’s the one I just told ya about. Then there’s this “new” way, with different dates and all. Confuses the heck outta me, to be honest. I figure, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The old way’s been workin’ just fine for centuries.

What’s It All Mean Anyway?
Now, some folks, they believe these zodiac signs can tell you all sorts of things. Like, what kind of person you are, who you should marry, what your lucky days are. Me, I don’t put too much stock in it. But it’s fun to think about, ain’t it? And sometimes, it’s spooky how accurate it can be.
Horoscopes and All That Jazz
You ever read them horoscopes in the newspaper? They tell you what your day’s gonna be like based on your sign. Sometimes they’re right, sometimes they’re wrong as rain. But it’s a good way to pass the time, I reckon. And if it gives you a little hope or a little warnin’, well, what’s the harm in that?
The Moon and the Planets Too
And it ain’t just the sun signs, you know. The moon matters too. And the planets. They all got somethin’ to say, if you know how to listen. There’s new moons and full moons, and times when the planets go backwards – retrograde, they call it. It all affects us, somehow. It’s like we’re all connected to the sky, like little puppets on strings.

So, What Do I Think?
Well, like I said, I ain’t no expert. But I think there’s somethin’ to this whole zodiac thing. Maybe it’s just a way to make sense of the world, or maybe it’s somethin’ more. Either way, it’s been around a long time, and it ain’t goin’ away anytime soon. So, next time you look up at the stars, remember them twelve signs, and maybe you’ll see somethin’ you never noticed before.
And remember, don’t take it all too serious. Life’s too short for that. Just have a little fun with it, and maybe, just maybe, you’ll learn a little somethin’ about yourself along the way.
